Crush – ArtLove Day 5

crush digital illustration by michelle christina
Crush – schoolyard crush, secret love, object of affection or desire, infatuation, puppy love. Actual definition of the word crush: to press or squeeze with a force that destroys or deforms. Oh, the irony.

Other [unrelated] notes: Crush is the name of a Bon Jovi album that I really dig. It’s also the name of about a dozen other random albums as well.

Love Potions Sketchbook Page #1 - Pencil, ink, watercolor - approx. 4x6

Love potions, cure all elixirs, strong arming free will. Being love struck, enchanted, bewitched. A common theme in movies – usually with disastrous consequences. There’s a pill for just about every ailment nowadays, isn’t there..?

Soulmates – ArtLove Project Day 3

soulmate conversation hearts by michelle christina
Soulmates: kindred spirits, companions, lovers. The concept of soul mates isn’t just restricted to romantic love relationships. Although some people believe there is an ultimate form of soulmates in which there is only 1 equal matching spirit out there that matches our own. It is said that all souls are searching to find and intertwine with their other half. This is an actual theory called twin flames – although it’s rooted in astrology & mythology.

Notes about this photo: I had to open 4 boxes of conversation hearts to get two soulmate pieces.

This is day three – you can read all about the ArtLove Project in this post.

Heartbeat – ArtLove Day 2

With Every Beat Of My Heart Illustration by Michelle Christina

Happiness pulses with every beat of my heart.- Emily Logan Decens

Heartbeat: A single complete pulsation of the heart. A vital force or driving impulse. In an instant… [In a heartbeat - vector artwork.]

Side note: There’s an exceedingly large amount of cheeseball songs that use this line. It’s pretty hard to tell where exactly this phrase originated from.

14 Days Of Love Illustrated.

Love and Snowstorms February Illustration by Michelle Christina
Blogging regularly has been more of a challenge than I originally anticipated. I’m sure it’s just because it’s not a habit yet. So, I’m starting a mini project. 1 graphic a day for fourteen days – ending on Valentine’s Day. Themes to revolve around.. Love & Happiness (surprising, I know). Ideally I’d like to cover common phrases & symbols that are often associated with love and V-day.

The project will include artwork of all kinds. Digital, photo, drawings. I have a list of thoughts, but I’ve only started 1 or 2 illustrations, so this will be an on the fly, crunch time, completely made up as I go along, improvised art project. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn into the sappiest two weeks of blog posts ever. But I’m definitely not making any guarantees.

I thought that I might call this the graphic love project, but the general consensus is that a title like that sounds far more.. adult than what’s actually going on. So… The ArtLove Project. (this is day 1, btw)

Happy February. :-)

Beauty in Acrylic Paint Palettes

Vibrant Acrylic Paint Artist Palette I’ve been saving palettes from painting projects over the years. I’m going to make something with them eventually. Maybe a collage. They’re sort of like mini pieces of art on their own anyway.

Tentative Voodoo – Artwork in Progress

voodoo watercolor painting by michelle christina
I’ve been working on this piece for a while now (tentatively titled Voodoo. It’s watercolor on paper). I’ve taken a zillion reference photos and made a bunch of different versions. It’s been hanging on my wall for weeks and I’ve just been waiting for a feeling about where to go from here.

The original theme was based on the concept of charisma –  how some people almost exude a captivating magnetic force. Wow factor, confidence, social acumen, whatever you want to call it – bottom line is that not everyone has it, but most have probably met someone who does.

Anyway, this project had totally stalled out, but I was tooling around in Adobe Illustrator last night with a Wacom tablet and below is the result. This isn’t finished either, but I’m already leaps & bounds more satisfied with where it’s going.
