Detour – New Orleans

I took a quick, last minute trip with my sister to New Orleans last week. The trip was rushed & we missed a connector flight out of D.C (which was what I would call.. a character building experience). Although I wasn’t there long & only really experienced a bit of the French Quarter – I was able to snap off a fair amount of photos.
After seeing Bourbon Street (where most of the Mardi Gras celebration centers around) on a Monday night, I can confirm that you could visit this area at any time of year & on any day of the week and still get your fill of the party atmosphere.

This set is a quick watercolor study inspired by a photo I snapped on Bourbon St during the day. The first photo was taken early evening (8pm-ish?) on Bourbon St.
New England Fall Photos

A few photos from a day trip to the North Conway NH area. The leaves were just starting to turn at the beginning of October when we were visiting. The photos are from a little walking trail that leads up to a place called Diana’s Bath. It was a nice area with small waterfalls and lots of little wading pools tucked in between the rocks.
Color Theories

Color tests! (aka time wasters) I love these things, I feel that they tend to be eerily accurate. I took a whole course in college devoted to color theory. Your response to color is far more than just an arbitrary thought.

Death & Taxes

Just finished. Minus scanning in an unwieldy pile of biz receipts.

Raining and Pouring
If you live in the northeast USA like I do, you’re probably completely waterlogged by this point due to all of the inclement weather. I was not happy to find a bit of rain water leaking through my ceiling this morning… but after watching the news and seeing cars completely submerged in flood water in massachusetts, I have to say I’m so thankful it’s only a bucket of water in my kitchen. At least it’s not snow, right?

Exceptionally great advice from a cookie.
Color Branding

So, I posted the teal photos yesterday because I had been considering altering my biz color palette. After spending a whole day tweaking and considering, I’m back to purple & grey. Oddly enough, almost the same website layout as my last version. I actually didn’t even realize exactly how full circle I had come until just now. I can personally attest to the fact that as a graphic designer, creating a personal brand is literally the hardest project you will ever take on. I’ve never had a client anywhere near as annoying as myself.
Studio Snapshots
So, I like seeing where other creatives, freelancers & independents work & make things. My studio is messy, but a here’s quick photo of things on my work table. And a close up.
